WHAT IS A BRAZILIAN WAX?

The Brazilian wax got its cult following from the lovely ladies of Brazil. It was here that the thong bikini was first introduced, and women needed a hair removal regimen that would make wearing the scantily clad swimwear possible. Hence, the emergence of the Brazilian wax.

In 1986, 7 sisters from Brazil, called the J sisters, moved to New York City and opened their own waxing boutique. With the J Sisters came the technique of removing as much hair as possible from the bikini region so that women could don today’s thong underwear or thong bikinis.

What to Expect

Your waxing will be performed by an experienced waxing professional in a private treatment room. There is no need to feel embarrassed; the Brazilian wax is one of the most requested waxing services and chances are your technician performs several in one day.

You will be escorted to the private treatment room where you will be left alone to remove your pants and underwear and lay on a clean bed with clean sheets.

The technician will dip a waxing stick into a pot of warm wax and then spread it onto your skin and hair. She will then apply a cloth strip over the still-warm wax, pressing firmly so the cloth, hair and wax adhere to one another. When the wax has cooled, she will pull the strip off, in the opposite direction of your hair growth, pulling the hairs out by the root.

Most likely, she will tweeze any remaining stray hairs. Waxing usually starts in the front and moves toward the back. You may have to move your legs up or down or to the side in order for all of the hair to be removed. You also may have to lay on your stomach for part of the service. You may be asked to help hold skin taut.

The technician will spread soothing lotion over the waxed areas. You should ask what to do in case of bumps, redness or ingrown hairs.

How to Prepare for A Brazilian Wax

· Let your hair grow at least ¼ of an inch so the wax can grasp the hair.

· Do not shave before your appointment.

· Do not go tanning before getting waxed, this can lead to tears in the skin.

· Tell your technician of any medications you are on that may make your skin sensitive.

· Wash thoroughly before your appointment. If you are coming straight from work, use the restroom and clean thoroughly with a baby wipe before getting waxed

· Some people experience sensitive skin after waxing, you may take Advil an hour before your appointment to help
