Valentina Chistova, International Skin Care Expert
Skin care products, they’re everywhere! On the TV, Internet, and department store beauty counters. They promise beautiful skin for their devoted followers. But how do you really know if these products are working for you? How do you know which products are worthy and which are a waste?
There is so much confusion about which skin care products consumers actually need, because the average consumer does not know his or her skin type. They might think they have oily skin, because they become shiny at the end of the day, or maybe they think they have dry skin because their skin feels tight. All of these physical attributes could actually be symptoms of incorrect skin care and not actual determining factors to one’s specific skin type.
The real question is what does your skin need?
To understand your skin’s unique composition, schedule a consultation with a professionally trained skin care expert. A proper analysis of your skin’s natural balance of oil and water can help you determine which skin care products you need for your type.
Years of improper skin care can have devastating effects. The number one misuse of skin care products occurs from women who have oily skin. Oil is your skin’s natural method of hydration. However, because women don’t like a shiny appearance, they often use harsh products to strip the skin of its natural oils. What women are really doing is disrupting the proper balance of oil and water in their skin. Later on down the road, these same women suffer the symptoms of dry skin. Their skin has lots its natural moisture, and there is no cream that can replace your skin’s natural moisture. Symptoms can include a tightening feeling in the skin, deep and defined wrinkles and fine lines, flaking of the skin, grayish/dull discoloration of the skin.
Do you want a fast fix or a long-term solution to caring for your skin?
My goal is to help you perfect your skin care regimen while you still can. You can create a future radiance and glow for your skin by choosing the right products that work with your specific skin type. Did you ever see an older women whose skin looks so soft? Her wrinkles even look soft and faint, and she will have a rosy glow to her cheeks. This is a woman who has kept her skin’s natural balance of oil and water intact.
My grandmother used to always say to me, “Val if you don’t take care of your skin every night, your skin will grow 4 days older each time you neglect it.”
Valentina’s Solution
Go to a professional and get to know your skin type and what you need to maintain and protect your natural balance of oil and water. When you purchase your skin care products from the Internet, TV or department store counter, you are taking a gamble that the product will actually work against your desired results. Don’t take the advice of someone who is not a trained and licensed skin care expert. If you are interested in a product that you saw on the TV or in a store, seek the advice of a professional first, see if it’s right for your type. Then make your product purchases. A true professional will not persuade you to buy other products. If you are simply looking for advice, they should be open and honest with you.

Acne on The Chin, Why Teens Experience this Problem. NJ Skin Care Expert Talks

Question: Hi Valentina - why does my teenage son only get bad acne around his chin and lower cheeks? The rest of his face seems fine.
Valentina: This is very common for teens. Acne around the chin is usually from overactive hormones, something all teens most likely will experience. The overactive hormones produce extra sebum (oil) around the chin and lower jaw line which tends to cause higher levels of acne there.
Your teen should be on a good skin care regimen. He should wash his face twice a day and follow that up with a toner and acne treatment for affected areas. If areas of his face are dry he should use a gentle moisturizer for those areas. Use an acne fighting exfoliator at least once a week as well.
It is a good idea to begin him on a monthly teen facial routine. The facial will help extract any impurities that are trapped beneath the skin’s surface. Removing them during a facial will often prevent them from forming whiteheads later on. Our Valentina's teen facial is formulated specifically for the problems of teen skin, we use all natural, anti-oxidant products.
It is important to regularly clean cell phones as well. Cell phones are notoriously dirty and full of bacteria. We often press them up against our cheeks when we talk which can cause breakouts. Also try to keep his hands away from his face. When oils from our fingers are transposed onto our skin, breakouts are likely.
If his skin does not respond to over the counter medicine, a dermatologist can recommend a prescription to treat his acne.

Can Men Wax Their Facial Hair?

Question: My husband is looking for relief from his regular shaving routing. He shaves in the morning and it’s back again at night. Could he wax his facial hair so he doesn’t have to shave so much?
Valentina: I never recommend for men to wax their facial hair. First, the hair on men’s faces is much more coarse and thick than body hair. This makes it more difficult to remove. Second, the skin on the face is sensitive. These two combinations can make for some disastrous results if a man waxes his face.
I can sympathize with your husband not wanting to have to shave so often. My preferred method of hair removal for a man’s face is laser. Although it is costly, results are excellent.
Laser hair removal uses laser light to pass a light beam through the skin. The laser targets dark pigment, called melanin, in hair. When the light beam hits the hair follicle it is destroyed instantly from the intense heat. Patients usually report a slight stinging sensation when the laser is activated.
In most cases, laser hair removal slows hair regrowth, which could be excellent for your husband. Several treatments can nearly remove all of the hair for a very long period of time.

NJ Skin Care Expert Suggests Best Anti-Aging Facials Including Chemical Facial Peels

Question: Hello Valentina- what is the best anti-aging treatment? I’m in my mid-30’s. I have a few small lines and wrinkles, mainly from the sun. I want to start treating and preventing any more from forming! Which treatments do you recommend? I heard chemical peels are good?
Valentina: Chemical peels are an excellent way to treat and combat the signs of aging. However, like T-Shirts, there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to skin care. While chemical peels are wonderful, you really need to have your skin analyzed to see which approach will yield the best results for you.
Here are some answers to commonly asked questions regarding Chemical Facial Peels. I am not addressing questions of deep chemical peels since those are performed only by doctors and plastic surgeons. I hope this helps. And remember, make a consultation to have your skin analyzed before booking an appointment for a Chemical Facial Peel. You want to make sure you are choosing the treatment that is best for your skin.
What is a Chemical Peel?
Typically used on the face, a chemical peel uses an acid solution to remove damaged outer layers of the skin. A chemical peel can smooth skin texture and is great for treating blemishes, reducing wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation.
Are Chemical Peels Dangerous?
If performed correctly by a trained professional, the risk of injury from a chemical peel is low. However, you should always be aware that there could be negative side effects from any advanced skin care treatment like a chemical peel. These risks include scarring, infection, swelling, changes in skin tone, and cold sore outbreaks. This is why it is so critical to have a comprehensive consultation with the professional who is performing your chemical facial peel. You will be asked about any medications you are on, medical history and exposure to the sun.
Can anyone get a chemical facial peel?
Most people with acne, uneven pigments or wrinkles can get chemical peels. There are different types of chemical peels, so you should inquire about which peel would help the specific condition you are looking to treat. If you have been taking Acutane, you may have to wait before getting your peel. If your skin has a tendency to keloid, another treatment may be suggested for you. A professional consultation will help determine which peel is best for you.
Do Chemical Peels hurt?
Depending on how strong of a peel you get, you can expect a burning and tingling sensation during the peel while the solution is on your face. Remember, a deep chemical facial peel is a different story. I am speaking of lower grade peels that can be performed in a spa by a trained professional.
I hope this helps answer some questions you may have had. If you have further questions, email me at info@dayspaexpert.com .

What Are The Benefits of Microdermabrasion? NJ Skin Care Expert Answers

Question: Hi Valentina. I just turned 50, but I don’t want to look it! What is Microdermabrasion and can it help turn back the clock??
Valentina: Microdermabrasion is a treatment that is performed to obtain a deep exfoliation of the outer most layer of skin. Some spas use a wand that has little bits of crushed diamonds. The diamonds brush across the skin’s surface blasting away dead and dehydrated skin cells. At the same time, a powerful vacuum sensation quickly inhales the crushed diamonds and dead skin cells after they make their way across your skin’s surface. Other spas use a crystal free method, where a wand is used with a powerful suction force that lifts dead skin cells and impurities right off your face. I prefer the crystal free as it is less abrasive to the skin.
This is an excellent skin re-surfacing technique that reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and sun damage over time.
Why Microdermabrasion?
There are numerous benefits to microdermabrasion. The procedure is a quick and painless way to rejuvenate and refresh the overall appearance of your skin. One of the most noteworthy advantages is that there is no downtime after treatment.
Think of how a snake sheds its skin. We need to do the same. When we remove the outer most layer of skin that has become clogged with impurities and dead cells, our complexion instantly looks brighter and more vibrant. Although you may not realize it, impurities within the skin have a grayish tint. Once you remove them, you will see a big difference.
If you are serious about beginning an anti-aging regimen, consider alternating between microdermabrasion and a gentle chemical peel. Both treatments work in conjunction to help shed old layers of skin that have become creased with wrinkles and damaged by the sun. You will be amazed at the results!

HAVE YOUR NEXT BIRTHDAY PARTY AT AQUAMEDICA SPA IN NJ

Question: Hi Valentina- my daughter is turning 16 and I wanted to plan a spa party for her at your spa. How many girls could you accommodate for a sweet 16 spa party and about how long would the party last?
Valentina: Spa birthday parties are a specialty at Aquamedica Spa. I must say, group spa parties are very popular at our spa. Thank you for your interest in planning your daughter’s birthday party here.
Because we have such a large facility, we regularly cater to group spa parties with as many as 50 people! Your daughter and her friends will all be greeted with plush spa robes and cozy spa slippers. Everyone will lounge together in our tranquil Dream Room where you can cater in food, refreshments and munchies for all of her guests. Depending on the size of your party, there may be times when some girls are in treatment rooms and some girls are relaxing together in the Dream Room. This is also a where your daughter can open presents or enjoy birthday cake with her guests.
As far as how long the party will be, that is entirely up to you. We are happy to customize any spa party to fit your needs. Most last a few hours, for the simple reasons that guests enjoy lounging in the dream room and typically each person has at least 2-3 services.
Many of our services, like massages or facials, can be offered for the full 1 hour, or in an express ½ version. Using a combination of 1 hour and ½ services can better help you plan a party for a specified period of time.
Most teen spa parties consist of massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. Those tend to be the most popular service.
The easiest thing to do is to call myself, or my son, Anatoliy, the spa manager. We’ve planned countless spa parties and we would be more than happy to help you do the same.
You can read more about our teen spa parties online.
I hope I have answered some of the questions you have about birthday spa parties at Aquamedica. I look forward to hearing from you again soon!
